figures of norse mythology: skadi
daughter of the jotunn Thjazi, Skadi is a goddess and a jotunn associated with skiing, hunting, winter, and mountains. after the gods killed her father Njord, she dressed in his armor and went to Asgard to demand restitution. she was wed to the god Njord and her father’s eyes became stars. her last demand was that one of the gods should make her laugh, and Loki (with the help of a goat) succeeded in this task. she became estranged from Njord in later years and married Odin. when Loki was bound, it was Skadi who placed the great serpent above his head, where it will stay until Ragnarok.
